Reinier Waij is a passionate consultant striving to translate innovative ideas into market ready products for healthcare. At Catalyze, he combines his entrepreneurial, biological and analytical background for this cause. This led to securing funding for his very first Eurostars project.
Reinier Waij obtained his bachelor’s degree Biology at the UvA and his first master’s degree in Management, Policy Analysis and Entrepreneurship in Health and Life Sciences (MPA) at the VU, both in Amsterdam. After this period, he went abroad for his second master in Entrepreneurship at Uppsala University in Sweden.
During his first master, he learned how to identify and solve problems related to the health and life science by using a scientific approach. He conducted two internships at biotech companies during this 2-years master. The first at to-BBB and the second at CardioGenx. Both internships had the same goal of providing recommendations for future business development but were based on different key criteria, KOL’s, diseases (ophthalmology and cardiac ischemia) and end-markets. For his master thesis, he took a closer look at the expiring blockbuster model of the pharmaceutical industry and researched sustainable alternatives for this model.
In 2015, he decided to do another master abroad and successfully completed his second programme in Entrepreneurship at Uppsala University in Sweden. During this master his entrepreneurial mind was trained by among others studying scientific papers and solving real life business cases. For his master thesis he took a closer look at the influence of the entrepreneur’s passion at crowdfunding sites. At Catalyze, Reinier combines his scientific background, analytical skills and entrepreneurial spirit to bring innovative ideas to the market.
